Chhanda: Overcoming Marital Abuse Through Livelihood Skills

Originally from Midnapore, West Bengal, Chhanda faced early disruptions in her education following the loss of her mother. After relocating to Delhi to live with her sister, she worked in factory units before getting married. However, years of severe domestic violence and marital abuse compelled her to walk away from the relationship to preserve her dignity and safety. "After leaving a painful marriage, I was surviving on low-paying factory wages and worried about how I would sustain myself in the long run." Determined to rebuild her life, Chhanda visited the Deep Welfare Vocational Training Centre in Sangam Vihar. Leveraging her childhood interest in personal grooming, she enrolled in the comprehensive beauty culture course. The technical training and supportive environment provided her with a sustainable livelihood skill and renewed self-confidence. Today, Chhanda has moved past her traumatic past and is actively preparing to launch her own independent beauty service venture.
