Geeta: Building Self-Reliance and Economic Freedom

Originally from Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, twenty-year-old Geeta moved with her family to Panipat and later arrived at her maternal aunt’s home in Sangam Vihar, Delhi. Facing severe gender bias at home, she was forced to drop out of school after Class 8 and pushed toward an early marriage. To gain some autonomy, Geeta started working long shifts in an industrial garment factory. "At home, my education was cut short and my future was limited to early marriage. I wanted to stand on my own feet and live with dignity." Through a factory colleague, Geeta learned about DWO’s Vocational Training Centre in Sangam Vihar. She enrolled in the evening Beauty Culture and Cosmetology course after her factory shifts. Under the mentorship of the center instructors, Geeta mastered professional styling and skincare skills. Equipped with certified vocational capabilities, she is now financially independent, confident in making her own life choices, and looking forward to establishing her own enterprise.
